I guess, there is something wrong with your self-organisation if you keep a lot of overdue task and events. If it is enough to work on the newest only, the old ones cannot be important enough to work on them. So, at some time they should be deleted.

Additionally, it should be possible to create a task template without setting an alarm. Sure, currently, in the template editor this is possible, but when using the template to create a new task always the alarm flag is activated and has to be deactivated unnecessarily in this case.

For events the requested feature is meaningful. Past events are not interesting anymore. For tasks the current display make sense for tracking the task until it’s done.

I agree and support this issue explicitly!
If the calendar is scrolled to a future date to have a look whether this date is available to create an event on this date, then, when tabbing on this future date the calendar scrolls back to today and a new try is necessary to get the event created.
